Internet Dating Gone Sour

Twenty-five-year-old Terri Kwei Woon came all the way from Kuala Lumpur to look for a girl called Cassandra whom he befriended online and their relationship blossomed over a period of two years. Besides communicating through e-mails, Terri said he and Cassandra also exchanged SMS frequently but somehow, for some “curious” reasons, Terri lost contact with Cassandra over two months ago.

Pining for his “girlfriend”, Terri, accompanied by his 21-year-old brother; went around Kota Kinabalu searching for the girl that stole his heart, online. Despite never having met Cassandra personally, Terri said his love for her is genuine and he sincerely hopes that someone will lead him to Cassandra.

A check on his Friendster profile “confirmed” that Terri indeed is over smitten by Cassandra as his page is plastered with photos of his lovely "girlfriend". (Terri's profile under terri woon says he’s 25 and married).

Networking websites like Facebook, MySpace and Friendster are popular sites among teenagers as well as individuals who are looking to connect with others. While most internet users are aware and cautious of those who hide behind dubious profiles, many innocent people are still falling victims to the unscrupulous lots who are out to exploit them.

But Terri said his is a genuine case; he comes looking for Cassandra with "a heart most pure", hoping to meet her for the first time.

Despite being laughed at by some curious passers-by, Terri said he is not ashamed with what he is doing. He’s here until this Sunday and is chasing after time, trying to locate the girl of his dream.

Maybe Terri is looking for love in all the wrong places? What about Cassandra's side of the story? Why did she stop answering Terri's e-mails? Should we all stay tune for the next episode? Will the real Cassandra, please stand up ...
